What's the meaning of all of this?
This is get out of your own way.
The podcast for women who are stuck unable to move forward with life
due to a lack of self worth and confidence and maybe even a lack of
motivation and direction.
It's also for those who are struggling with the toxic behaviors of a
narcissist in their life and don't know which way to turn.
Hello, everyone. I'm Elise Cohen, transformative life coach, tarot master and energy healer.
I'm also the mom of two amazing adult kids and the owner of Elise Cohen transformative coaching.
There's no short answer to that question. What's the meaning of all this? Without first telling you my story, I am a transformative life coach who uses the tarot and energy healing
to provide healing, to provide clarity and powerful insights into your life's journey.
Everyone is on a journey, but sometimes we're just not clear what it is yet. Now, I wasn't always a spiritual practitioner. I was actually a group fitness instructor for over 20 years and I sold skin care and makeup for 15 years. Yep, mascara and lip gloss all the way. But most importantly, I'm a survivor of narcissistic abuse, a high range narcissistic mother who was verbally and emotionally abusive.
She controlled every aspect of my life from what I wore to what I ate to how I spoke. And more it started in early childhood and it went on and on. She stole my self esteem, my confidence, my happiness and my spirit. And I let her OK, I let her, I thought one day she's going to see me for who I am and love me and appreciate me. as I got older, well into adulthood, her treatment of me never ceased. In fact, it actually worsened. I began to have physical and emotional reactions in the form of panic attacks, extreme anxiety, angry outbursts. And I played the victim. I also played the blame game which I'll get to in a minute.
The panic and anxiety scared me so much and I began to look for help.
While I did find a wonderful traditional therapist. I was being drawn at the time to holistic and spiritual counseling as well. I ask for answers and the universe provides.
I had a really powerful tarot reading. I met the most amazing energy healer and I worked with the best transformative life coach where I could dig deep into my heart, my mind, my body and soul to find my identity, the me I really was meant to be was just aching to be born.
And I had the spiritual awakening that aha moment when, as I was healing, I knew with total certainty that I was here to pay it forward.
I knew I couldn't possibly be the only woman in this dark place. And I set out on a mission to help as many as I could. But the most important thing that I discovered was that the only
person who was really standing in my way was me. I learned that I had free will. I'd never heard that term before. I had free will. Everybody does and no one could control me unless I let them. I was not responsible for giving up my power to anyone.
My life, my choices were mine and only mine and all I had to do was get out of
my own way. I know it sounds simple. You're probably rolling your eyes going.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I'm not gonna lie to you. It was a lot of hard work and very uncomfortable a lot of the time. I had a lot of fears. A lot of self doubt, a lot of emotional roller coaster rides and intense periods or sessions of just plain sobbing. And I needed to stop playing the blame game.
I needed to stop blaming my mother for everything or other family members or where I lived or what I was doing.
I needed to take responsibility for my role in all of this as I discovered that I could get out of my own way. I could be in control of my life, all of it. I could take back my power and make my own choices and my own decisions.
I could wear what I wanted, eat what I wanted, think what I wanted. And if I made mistakes,
they were mine to own up to and I could do better the next time because I had free will. and guess what? You can do better too, a whole lot better. But first you must believe that you are entitled to better. You have value, you have power and you have free will.
Let me give you a little guided visualization to get you started. Imagine that you are standing at a crossroads, a fork in the road of your life. One path leads to your dreams, your intentions and the person you aspire to be. the other path.
Well, it's cluttered. It's really cluttered. It's cluttered with self doubt, fear and self sabotage.
Basically, there's a major roadblock and you can't get by. which one are you going to choose today?
So my guided visualization is actually just one path and I'm going to guide you down it right now. So what I'd like is for you to be in a place where you are sitting or lying still, no noises,
no other distractions. And please, please do not listen to this. If you are driving or operating heavy machinery, you can come back to it later because sometimes it can make you very
drowsy.
Now, close your eyes, take a deep cleansing breath in through your nose, out through your mouth and in your mind's eye. Imagine a beautiful warm spring day. The sun is shining brightly. There's not a cloud in the sky. A gentle breeze is blowing. And now you see yourself in a beautiful garden, a rich velvety green lawn in the center, surrounded by all of the colorful flowers that bloom in spring, wherever you are, you can smell all of the sweet scents of those spring blooms.
Now start to walk out of the garden and step onto a path in front of you. in your mind's eye.
Imagine what the path is made of.
It could be a dirt path,
it could be stone,
it could be brick,
it could be cement,
it's really up to you.
It's your choice.
You can create this path however you want.
It's long and it extends straight in front of you.
It's bordered on both sides with extensive fields of green.
Now, look down at yourself and notice what you are wearing short sleeves or long, shorts,
long pants, a skirt. Are you wearing shoes or are you barefoot? Is your hair pulled up or is it loosely flowing in the breeze? Are you wearing a hat? Sunglasses? You decide it's your choice.
Now, slowly begin to walk down the path, breathing in the fresh air and all the amazing smells of spring. Notice any sounds around you. Birds chirping, bees buzzing, the wind
whistling.
Are there any other animals out on this day? Maybe there's a creek or a babbling brook and you can hear the water gently running. Continue walking down the path that you've created and take everything in.
You feel so at peace. as you look ahead on the path, you see a figure in the distance. as you get closer, you notice the figure is wearing exactly what you are wearing right down to shoes or no shoes. Their hair is the same color as yours and they wear their hair the same way you do.
Now, you're within just a couple of feet of this figure and you gasp as you realize the figure is you, it's blocking the path. This figure will not let you go by. This is you getting in your own way, but this is no longer acceptable to you. You walk right up to them within a couple of inches. You put your hands on their shoulders and very gently and kindly move them to the side to make the path clear for you to continue on. And they are surprised to say the least,
but they stay to the side and they let you pass and as you pass them, they give you a slight nod of approval and you continue your journey down this clear path, feeling confident,
brave, at peace and accomplished. feeling that you can do anything you set your mind to.
Congratulations. You've gotten out of your own way. You have successfully completed the first step to unlocking your next chapter, the person that you've always wanted to be. courageous,
strong, worthy and full of optimism about your future self.
Now, before you open your eyes, take one last deep cleansing breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. And when you're ready, you may open your eyes and come back.
Visualizing in your mind's eye can be so powerful, you can come back and listen to this any time you'd like. getting out of your own way is not just a catchy phrase. It's a powerful concept that can transform your life. It's about overcoming mental and emotional obstacles that prevent you from reaching your full potential.
Let me say that again. It's a powerful concept that can transform your life. It's about overcoming the mental and emotional obstacles that prevent you from reaching your full potential. Remember that getting out of your own way is a journey, not a destination. It's an ongoing process of self discovery and personal growth. I'm still discovering myself and growing personally. So you need to be patient with yourself and don't be discouraged by
setbacks. These setbacks are merely stepping stones on your path to success.
Setbacks are just part of the process and we learn from every single one of them.
they're lessons.
Well, everyone, our time together today has come to an end. But the journey to get out of your own way is just beginning. I encourage you to reflect on the obstacles in your life. Pick one to work on and take that first step. See how that feels. you have the power within you to overcome anything that stands in your way.
